On Admissible Rank One Local Systems

A rank one local system L on a smooth complex algebraic variety M is 1-admissible if the dimension of the first cohomology group H(M,L) can be computed from the cohomology algebra H∗(M, C) in degrees ≤ 2. Under the assumption that M is 1-formal, we show that all local systems, except finitely many, on a non-translated irreducible component W of the first characteristic variety V1(M) are 1-admis...

Jacobi Forms of Degree One

We show that a certain subspace of space of elliptic cusp forms is isomorphic as a Hecke module to a certain subspace of space of Jacobi cusp forms of degree one with matrix index by constructing an explicit lifting. This is a partial generalization of the work of Skoruppa and Zagier. This lifting is also related with the Ikeda lifting.

K3 Surfaces of Picard Rank One and Degree Two

Examples 1. A K3 surface of degree two is a double cover of P, ramified in a smooth sextic. K3 surfaces of degree four are smooth quartics in P. A K3 surface of degree six is a smooth complete intersection of a quadric and a cubic in P. And, finally, K3 surfaces of degree eight are smooth complete intersections of three quadrics in P. The Picard group of a K3 surface is isomorphic to Zn where n...

Generating Whitney Forms of Polynomial Degree One and Higher

A rationale for Whitney forms is proposed: they are seen as a device to approximate manifolds, with approximation of differential forms as a by-product. A recursive generating formula is derived. A natural way to build higher-degree forms then follows.

On the Local Structure of Rank-one Convex Hulls

In this note we prove that if K is a compact set of m×n matrices containing an isolated point X with no rank-one connection into the convex hull of K \ {X}, then the rank-one convex hull separates as K = ( K \ {X} )rc ∪ {X}. This is an extension of a result of P. Pedregal, which holds for 2× 2 matrices.
